About the artist

Wim Bosch composes his pictures digitally from various photographs of his own and illustrations from others. He finds inspiration from diverse sources - home decorating magazines, architecture, paintings, and the Internet, among others. He constructs ostensibly ordinary interior environments, but with a subtle sense of the extraordinary - "scraping and sanding the varnish of the well-known". The spectator searches for clues among the image; this engagement with the image is a hallmark of Bosch's work. The relationships within the image are the most important, and Bosch accomplishes this with his heavily-layered context - missing shadows, breaks in perspective, and much more. He lives and works in Groningen, The Netherlands, and exhibits around the globe.

About the book

For his latest project, Still live, Wim Bosch purchased plastic model houses offered on digital marketplaces. Dating from the '50s and '60s, a period of optimism, growing wealth, rising individualism and new leisure activities such as modeling, the world was literally a kit for the model builder. In the attic or at the kitchen table, he was as the master of the universe. Some buildings appear torn from their former plastic world without compassion by the descendants of the builders. The accurately exposed and photographed models exhibit traces of bygone times in dust, scratches, stains and damage. His new book about this project comes in a hand made box that also contains three different prints form this series.
