About the artist

Marina Weigl was born in 1985 in an idyllic village near the Bavarian forest, Germany. While studying photography at the University of Sciences and Arts, Dortmund, Germany, she created her own photographic style - a state of intoxication, of adventure, curiosity, or a fictional reality show with a childlike naivety. After finishing her BA, she finished her masters in photography in Dortmund. Marina's photographic work is Characterized by a whimsical, poetic, and dream like atmosphere with wisps of nostalgia. Memories, childhood, mythology and nature inform her work, with a sometimes surrealism universe. Her balance conceptual photography with images of intuitive, emotional feeling for situations and people.

About the book

For Marina Weigl’s latest project, LUX, she uses her fascination with light to showcase how it is transformative as both an object and a phenomenon. Both as a book and an installation, LUX questions what is seen and what is hidden; what is imagined and what is perceived. This creates an otherworldly and poetic experience, a hallmark of Marina’s work. Marina says, “Light can be immaterial and also visible, it is both, object and phenomenon. In that way my work balances between the technical and the poetical character of light. but also shows the essential role light has in producing photographs.”
