About the artist

Kai-Uwe Gundlach is one of Germany’s best-known photographers. His bold and graphic landscapes, cityscapes, and portrait work are renowned. Kai-Uwe ceaslessly searches to make his images - at once polished yet unusual - stand out from the ordinary. This determination, combined with abundant creativity, has led to his fame. He always sees something that catches his trained eye, from commissions to personal work, in daily life or not. His work has led to numerous awards - a silver AOP award in 2006, "Highly Recommended" by the European Architectural Photography Prize in 2009, and many others.

About the book

Besides showing three chapters of uncompromising stylish photography downtown Tokyo the book is even more than a special edition. Each book is unique for Rie Wada, a Düsseldorf located Calligraphy artist created a sign of EDO (Tokyo) that is put on the front cover by hand with color pigments from charcoal, rust and silver. Surely each book is signed and numbers as well but the book is wrapped in black silk-paper so nobody knows what kanji or number to expect. Takashi Homma expressed deep respect to the Shibuya chapter which is the dark horse of the book.
